Dr. Machen in the News: Prostate Cancer Awareness

Dr. Luke Machen on the news.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with Black men facing twice the risk of developing the disease. Dr. Machen emphasizes the importance of understanding risk factors, such as family history and racial background, and advises men to start discussions with their healthcare providers about screenings between the ages of 40-50 (depending on your family history). Early detection through routine screenings is crucial for improving treatment outcomes and reducing risks.

Common symptoms of prostate cancer include blood in the urine, difficulty urinating, and unexplained weight loss. However, misconceptions about the disease often lead to delays in seeking care. Dr. Machen addresses these misconceptions and highlights the importance of proactive health measures.
